[styledbox type="information" width="600" align="center"]THE PRICE HAS NOW GONE BACK UP TO $59.99 SORRY
Check back as it may go back on sale.[/styledbox].

Battlefield 3 Premium Upgrade plus a FREE code for Battlefield 3 Limited Edition

Please read all of this post before proceding, make sure understand completely.
Comment here for help.

If you do not already have BF3, this will give you everything.

[styledbox type="download" width="600" align="center"]PC Version ONLY
It's important you use this link. Battlefield 3: Premium Edition [Download][/styledbox]

PC ONLY I don't how this will work on Consoles. if even applicable

I cannot verify if you have a regular BF3 edition, "Back to Karkand" pack may go with the LE version only!
so you may end up with Premium and missing Back to Karkand, but I don't know for sure.

I'm going to show you how to get Battlefield 3 Premium Edition for *$29.99 or regular price, and
If you already have BF3 Limited Edition Base Game, then you will have an extra BF3 LE (Limited Edition) Base Game to give away, share, or whatever.

the asterisk (*) means that the price is subject to change.

Purchase the game from here *$29.99 as of *12/26/2012, *the price is subject to change.
I purchased the Download version, because all you need are the codes, origin handles the download.
and who uses discs these days anyway.

It's important you use this link. Battlefield 3: Premium Edition [Download]

Let me first explain that their are (2) versions of Premium:

1). Battlefield 3 Premium Edition -
this is the base Game BF3 Limited Edition, Premium Membership, Expansions, and extras

2). Battlefield 3 Premium -
This is the Premium Membership, Expansions, and extras (DOES NOT CONTAIN THE BASE GAME like above)

Notice one has "Edition" the other does not.

OK. now with that out of the way this a good deal either way, even if the *$29.99 price tag has expired.

After you purchase the game, there should be a link that says "I just need the keys"
there is really no point in using Amazon Downloader, this is an origin game,
so you will put these keys in origin, and download there.

With the download, or the DVD you get 2 keys
1st key is for BF3 Limited Edition, plus Back to Karkand map pack.
2nd key is for Premium Membership, and map packs.

For those of you that bought this for the extra game, and already own BF3 Limited Edition
Access origin, click on Origin in the top menu, click "Redeem Product Code" use only the "Premium Service Key"
You are now a premium member. and you have another "Battlefield 3 LE Key (Limited Edition) that you can share with a friend.

they will follow the above directions in origin only using the 2nd key.
and this will give them BF3 Limited Edition, and can start the download.

To verify each product, just point your browser to Battlefield Battlog and check your status

New Project: Steam Console

My new project is building a console with Steam's new Big Picture Platform.
Since I'm not running a server anymore I will be using it as as the box.
The server has changed dramaticly from when I originally built it.

Just to speed up the game downloads,
I have created a batch file to transfer all game files from my main gaming rig to the steam box.
C:\program files....\steam\steamapps

Some of the specs may change if applicable.
The experiment is to not purchase any products, except the xbox game controler for windows.
This is not intended to be an extreme gaming rig. more of a media pc to play my steam games on the television like an Xbox360, or Wii.
this system should be fairly equivalnt to a console.

System Specs:
Windows Vista 32-bit, (I may switch to Win 7 if there is complictions)
Intel Pentium E2160 1.80GHZ
MSI Boston MS-7525 G31 Motherboard HP/Compaq (will swap for a foxconn g31 if os is swapped license issue)
Corsair CMPSU-400CX 400W PSU
Corsair XMS2 DDR2/800 DHX Ram
Western Digital Cavier Blue 160GB HDD
I have no idea what the case is, I aquired it in swap. flimsy ATX
Logitech M305 wireless mouse
Logitech K250 wireless keyboard
XBOX360 wireless controler for Windows (If all goes well)
Belkin USB2.0 Wireless N adapter to connect to the Belkin Wireless N100 router.

I may also plug a router into this PC to connect some other non-wireless media devices to the network.
So far when I open Steam's Big picture the application crashes. It seems to work on Win 7, just issues with vista.

Nvidia GTX285 Driver log Issues

I have been keeping records of issues I have with the Nvidia GTX285 3-way SLI
It seems these issues have been present since release.

Some issues have been resolved, others have not.

The black screen, and white screen issues in Battlefield Bad Company 2 are the most apparent,
and are also issues with 8800GTS 512.

Here is the log I keep updated.

BF3 Settings GTX285 1GB 3-Way SLI

Update: 12/28/2012
I am now running @ 1920x1200 with High to ultra settings, and getting 60-200FPS
must have been a driver update, or game update.

So far this is the highest settings I can get on Battlefield 3 using my current setup.
Memory usage maxes out at 983MB of the GTX285's 1GB available vRam.
I'm supprised I can even use 1920x1200. the game is a bit smoother using 1680x1050,
but looks better with 1920x1200 with lower settings.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Setup will check to see if your PC can run Windows 8 Consumer Preview and select the right download. Setup also features a compatibility report and upgrade assistance. Built-in
tools for creating an ISO or bootable flash drive are available for some previous versions of Windows (excluding Windows XP and earlier). You can find system requirements and additional information in the FAQ and in the links on this page.

Note before you download: Windows 8 Consumer Preview is prerelease software that may be substantially modified before it’s commercially released. Microsoft makes no warranties, express or implied, with respect to the information provided here. Some product features and functionality may require additional hardware or software. [highlight type="one"]If you decide to go back to your previous operating system, you'll need to reinstall it from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC.[/highlight]

So I downloaded the Microsoft Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
So far what I actually downloaded was a preloader file that scanned my PC and showed me what needed to be updated, what was not compatible, and everything that will work fine.

Most of my programs are compatible as they are, a few others need an update, I was suprised that several of my programs are not compatible with Windows 8 Consumer Preview. One of these programs is Microsoft security essentials which I really enjoy. It catches many trojans, and exploits.

This is what I get from the download.
the first icon is an installer package, that does the scan, the othert is a download link.

So after the download was complete I was asked if I wanted to
install Now, or Install Later. I chose to install later because I don't want to install it on this Computer, I want to install it on a test computer I have specifically for this type of application.
the files are located in C:\WindowsESD, I'm hoping I can just drag that folder to c:/ of my test PC.
there is also a shortcut icon on my desktop to install Windows.

You can also download an ISO file to make a DVD

I'll keep this post updated as I venture into this preview.

Download here from Microsoft Don't be fooled by downloading from an unknown source.

Digitech iStomp

OK! Digitech you are losing me.
I like iPhone, Interaction, Interfacing, etc..
What I don't like is complete proprietary managed solutions.

I have been a fan of Digitech for many years,
but the products they have been introducing the past few years is really annoying.
I love products that interface together for extra features, but this has gone too far.

Here's what it means to me:

• Must have an iPhone, iPod, iPad to use your iStomp pedal
• Must download and install Digitech Stomp Shop app
• Must then purchase, download, install each stomp model from the Stomp Shop
• Must keep up to date iTunes
• Must rely on iTunes to keep your purchases safe & proofed
• Must also have the iStomp to use your purchases
• This one's a question, Do you also need an iStomp for each effect you want to use?

why not just buy a stomp box, seems easier and safer.
I mean who in the world wants a product that relies on several other products to function correctly.

Just for kicks I went to my iPhone 3Gs with IOS5,
Opened the appstore, searched for "Digitech Stomp"
and downloaded and installed the free Digitech Stomp app.

The big question is, How much will all this cost?
• MSRP $229.95us - $149.99us Retail for each iStomp
• Free Digitech Stomp Shop for IOS
• $4.99 / $6.99 / $9.99 for each Stomp Box Model.

So that's approx: $165-$170 per pedal.

Now I can only speak for me, but I use at least 5 effects at one time, and several more to make certain sounds.
Several Distortions, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Noise Gate, Reverb, Pitch Control, Expression, etc..
So I would need to purchase at least 5 iStomps to get my rig going?
$800.00us + the IOS device if I don't already have one could be a grand.
And I use even more effects then that. So as long I purchased at least 5 iStomps and 10 or so Stomp box apps
I would have a setup, then I would need to change 2 or 3 at a time to get certain sounds.
Not wise for a live setup, and to time consuming for someone with little time.

I won't knock this invention, it is really kool.
But my question is Where are the real effects processors for people like me.
They just keep making IOS effects, No new gear like GNX4, GNX3000, or even the RP models.
I guess the RP1000 and GSP1101 will need to hold itself for a while.
As for me, I will be keeping my GNX4, GNX3000, BP200 for a while, unless something real comes out.

** After thinking about it a little more, it's not a bad idea.
But the fact it's limited to IOS (eg.. iPhone, iPod, iPad) is still annoying.
I think if this was programmable with PC/Windows, Mac etc... then it would make more sense to me..
As for Android I understand the complications, brought to my attention by Digitech on Facebook.
BTW, I am an iPhone user.
The fact you can upgrade this unit to a new pedal for 5 to 10 bucks is a major plus.
I still think it's a bit over priced for a pedal, but if you need to replace one. It's really very inexpensive.
And you can switch it back.

So if you are an IOS user, and don't mind spending a little extra to get the extra features,
Then this is for you. On the other hand,
If you are a PC user, and do not have an IOS device, I would look elsewhere.

Facebook to sell stock

Watching the news I found out that Internet Giant "Facebook" will be selling stock to the public.
It is thought that Facebook will soon be worth upwards of 100 Billion Dollars.

Go Facebook.

Facebook, in one of the world's most widely anticipated IPOs, or initial public offerings of stock, filed papers this afternoon to raise at least $5 billion and begin to sell stock this spring.

The filing was made online with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington.  If all goes as planned, it will likely take until May for Facebook stock to begin trading on a stock exchange.

"There is a huge need and a huge opportunity to get everyone in the world connected, to give everyone a voice and to help transform society for the future," said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO, in a letter that accompanied the filing. "The scale of the technology and infrastructure that must be built is unprecedented, and we believe this is the most important problem we can focus on.

"We hope to strengthen how people relate to each other," he said.

Zuckerberg, now 27, famously started Facebook when he was a student at Harvard University in 2004.  Today, it has more than 800 million active users, and Zuckerberg said they have made more than 100 billion connections with each other.

Facebook, along the way, has made a lot of money.  It revealed in today's filing that in 2011 it had profits of $1 billion on sales of $3.7 billion.

Facebook IPO: Social Network to Go Public

Facebook Going Public?

Facebook Prepares for IPO

"It is a major sign of maturation" for Facebook to go public, said Lawrence Summers, the former secretary of the Treasury who was president of Harvard when Zuckerberg began Facebook. "It means more cash flow, it means even more visibility, it means even more responsibility to shareholders, but also to the broader society.

"It is both a recognition of what has been accomplished, and it points to the fact that Mark Zuckerberg has done a remarkable thing in building a global institution in a very short time," said Summers.

Several major investment banks are involved in the IPO, with Morgan Stanley in the lead role.  Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital and JP Morgan are also included.

Analysts said that this offering will change the Internet sector, creating what will be one of the world's most valuable Internet companies.

"Will Facebook's IPO be the biggest IPO in American history? Probably not," said David Kirkpatrick, author of "The Facebook Effect."  "But it will certainly be, by far, the biggest Internet or technology IPO we've ever seen."

Others warned that Facebook may not be a surefire winner for small investors looking to make some quick money. Certainly, Facebook has been profitable, but it has already made a great deal of money as a private company.  It has more than 800 million active users -- up 45 percent in 2011 -- but growth in the United States and other Western countries has already begun to slow.  Most of its recent growth in membership has been in countries such as Brazil and India.

Why go public now, anyway? Since Facebook already has more than 500 investors, it is required to make certain financial information public anyway under SEC regulations. The deadline to file this information expires in April.

Zuckerberg reportedly decided to go public once it became clear that the company had become too big to keep its finances private. By going public, Facebook loses some of its mystery and cool, having to declare profits and losses and answer to shareholders every quarter. But the company will have access to new cash and can use the value of its stock to acquire other companies and to reward its employees.

Many of Facebook's 3,000 employees could now become Silicon Valley millionaires.  Zuckerberg, himself, is already said to be the world's youngest billionaire.  The SEC filing showed that he asked to reduce his salary to $1 per year starting next Jan. 1.

"We believe that we have an opportunity to have an important impact on the world and build a lasting company in the process," he wrote in his letter today.

ABC News Zunaira Zaki contributed to this report.

By the Numbers: 103,785

We won.

A total of 103,785 people signed We the People petitions asking the Obama Administration to protect an open and innovative internet. A petition asking President Obama to veto the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) got 51,689 signatures, while 52,096 people signed the “Stop the E-PARSITE Act” petition.

Congress is debating a number of bills, including these two, that deal with the issue of online piracy. Today, several web sites joined together in a virtual strike against SOPA and other piracy legislation by shutting down or going dark.

Over the weekend, the White House responded to the petitions explaining that while online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, attempts to combat it must not reduce freedom of expression, increase cybersecurity risk, or undermine the dynamic, innovative global Internet:

Moving forward, we will continue to work with Congress on a bipartisan basis on legislation that provides new tools needed in the global fight against piracy and counterfeiting, while vigorously defending an open Internet based on the values of free expression, privacy, security and innovation.

Read the full petition response here, or learn more about We the People, a new platform that allows people to create and sign petitions calling for the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our nation.

End Piracy, Not Liberty

Google in the fight against SOPA, and PIPA

Sign The Petition! at Google

Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.
Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late.

Dino Dell Inspiron 1100 P4

I aquired a dinosaur laptop the other day, just for fun.
This laptop makes me appreciate my gaming rig.

Believe it or not, this old laptop is very responsive to the operating system,
still great for browsing the web, email, etc..
it's when you try to use programs that it shows it's weakness.
this laptop scored 1132 out of 1281 computers,
Where my gaming rig scores about 50 for the CPU Mark,
lol.... but it's still fuctional, very functinal.
Great for looking up information on a 14.1" screen vs the iPhone's tiny display.
and also having more abilities. In fact it can still sync with the iPhone using iTunes.

Just for fun I ran PassMark to see the results:

  • Compltet Result - 185.8

  • CPU Mark - 318.6

  • 2D Graphics - 235.7

  • 3D Graphics - 30.1

  • Memory Mark - 271.2

  • Disk Mark - 149.4

EA sued for BF3 helicopter use

EA is facing a lawsuit from a military helicopter manufacturer over the inclusion of the vehicles in Battlefield 3. To avoid the suit, EA has asked a federal judge to rule that depicting the aircraft falls under the company's First Amendment rights.

Kotaku reports that EA's legal talks with Textron, the parent company of Bell Helicopter, broke down. In response, EA filed the action in a Northern California federal court on Friday. EA claims the helicopters are "protected by the First Amendment and the doctrine of nominative fair use." It also notes that the packaging includes a disclaimer that its use of weapons and vehicles is not an official endorsement of the manufacturers.

This argument is somewhat similar to the one used in the NCAA players suit. In that case, the judge ruled that thanks to the protection granted by the first amendment, the company was within its rights.

Shacknews has contacted EA, and will update as more information becomes available.
