Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Windows 8 Consumer Preview Setup will check to see if your PC can run Windows 8 Consumer Preview and select the right download. Setup also features a compatibility report and upgrade assistance. Built-in
tools for creating an ISO or bootable flash drive are available for some previous versions of Windows (excluding Windows XP and earlier). You can find system requirements and additional information in the FAQ and in the links on this page.

Note before you download: Windows 8 Consumer Preview is prerelease software that may be substantially modified before it’s commercially released. Microsoft makes no warranties, express or implied, with respect to the information provided here. Some product features and functionality may require additional hardware or software. If you decide to go back to your previous operating system, you'll need to reinstall it from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC.

So I downloaded the Microsoft Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
So far what I actually downloaded was a preloader file that scanned my PC and showed me what needed to be updated, what was not compatible, and everything that will work fine.

Most of my programs are compatible as they are, a few others need an update, I was suprised that several of my programs are not compatible with Windows 8 Consumer Preview. One of these programs is Microsoft security essentials which I really enjoy. It catches many trojans, and exploits.

This is what I get from the download.
the first icon is an installer package, that does the scan, the othert is a download link.

So after the download was complete I was asked if I wanted to
install Now, or Install Later. I chose to install later because I don't want to install it on this Computer, I want to install it on a test computer I have specifically for this type of application.
the files are located in C:\WindowsESD, I'm hoping I can just drag that folder to c:/ of my test PC.
there is also a shortcut icon on my desktop to install Windows.

You can also download an ISO file to make a DVD http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/iso

I'll keep this post updated as I venture into this preview.

Download here from Microsoft Don't be fooled by downloading from an unknown source.
